Mlambe Foundation initiated the establishment of Tisunge! at the entrance of Lengwe National Park with local partners. It aims to preserve the Lower Shire culture and natural heritage by means of its museum, cultural tourism and reintroducation of ancient crafts, in particular traditional cotton weaving. Tisunge! has generated a lot of appreciation both locally and nationally. Lilian Steffens received a Diversity Leader Award from the business community for her involvement in Tisunge! and Mlambe managing director Menno Welling received a TVM award from the hands of the President in 2009. Tisunge! has featured in various domestic and international tv shows, magazines and newspapers.
Tisunge! is hoping to expand is activities in the field of education programmes at local school; heritage preservation measures; and professionalizing the exhibition. At the short term Tisunge! needs technical assistance with its weaving project and financial assistance with its reforestation programme.
